Most hallways and stair runs work best with a 4–6 inch margin of bare floor on each side. A 3-foot-wide hall takes a 27″ runner; a 3.5–4-foot-wide hall takes a 31″ runner. If you’re between sizes, the narrower runner usually looks more intentional.

Multiply the tread depth + riser height by the number of steps, then add 6–12 inches for the landing wrap. Always round up; we can’t add length later. If you have multiple flights, order one continuous runner so the seam doesn’t fall on a step.
