Behind the Scenes: Unboxing & Installing Our First Custom 12×12 Rug in NYC

Welcome to Well Woven’s blog! We’ve spent the last few months listening closely to our community, refining finishes, and vetting factories committed to social responsibility.

Today I’m thrilled to show you how we’re turning that feedback into action with our brand-new custom area rug lineup. A couple of weeks ago, we installed our very first custom 12′ × 12′ geometric rug right in the heart of our New York City office showroom—and we filmed the whole unboxing!

1. Why Custom Rugs Matter

Traditional area rugs often bounce through layers of manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and designers—each adding markup, time, and complexity. At Well Woven, we believe that process is broken. Our direct-to-consumer model means:

2. The Big Arrival: Delivery & Unboxing

On install day, here’s how it went down:

Delivery: I met the crate in our showroom lobby, tag-team with Andrew to carry it inside.
Unpack: Andrew and I carefully removed the protective wrap—no damage to the precious 12×12 foot broadloom roll.
Pad Prep: Nicole, Andrew and I laid down our premium rug pad to ensure comfort and grip.
First Reveal: Nicole and Luba unrolled the geometric pattern… only to spot it was upside-down! A quick 180° spin got it perfect.
Final Touches: Luba gave the floor a quick sweep, we slid our showroom table back into place, and voilà—a gallery-worthy floor covering.

3. Learning as We Grow

Launching this category isn’t just about putting products online; it’s about understanding the full experience—from ordering to installation. In 2025 our goals are to:

Gather customer feedback on fit and finish
Expand customization options (fringes, bevel edges, specialty dyes)
Create “how-to” guides for layout, care, and styling

I’ve long loved designing custom rugs—from my days sketching bespoke patterns to now scaling production. Watching this geometric design transform our space reminds me why flooring is foundational to every room’s mood and flow.
